ServiceNow Career Guidance Needed

Hi everyone,

I need some guidance from the community regarding my ServiceNow journey.

I completed ServiceNow ITSM training in June 2025 and attended around 15 interviews. However, I faced rejections mainly due to lack of scripting knowledge, even though I have a good theoretical understanding of ITSM.

Due to project pressure in my current organization, I paused my ServiceNow preparation. Now I’m planning to restart and aim for a switch into the ServiceNow domain.

Currently, I am not serving notice period, and my notice period is 90 days. I would like to understand how to handle this while applying for ServiceNow roles.

Also, I can dedicate around 2 hours daily for preparation. I would appreciate guidance on how to effectively utilize this time for learning (especially scripting and hands-on practice).

I have a couple of questions:

1. Is ITSM alone sufficient to switch, or should I also learn modules like HRSD?

2. How important is scripting (Business Rules, Client Scripts, GlideRecord) for clearing interviews?

3. What would be the best approach to restart preparation and crack interviews?

4. How should I manage the 90-day notice period while applying?

I would really appreciate any suggestions or guidance based on your experience.

Unless you have a safety net, don't give notice until you have a new job, even though 90 days is a lot.

ITSM training isn't going to get you far at the moment. Did you also certify? ServiceNow is no longer just the ITSM platform. It's great to have the understanding if you want to join as an administrator at a company that uses it for IT, but experience in ITOM would be good too, depending on them using it or not. 
Also: what role are you looking for? Because if it is in administration, technical consultancy, architectural, then scripting is important. And even if you go for Business consultant/analyst, knowing what a script does, will be really helpful. 

I can go on and on, but please either update your post or add as a comment what role you are looking for (and also what country/region you are working from). That information can give you way more useful tips than a general 'I want to get into the ServiceNow domain'. ServiceNow is huge.

The one thing I can tell you: get to understand the basics of AI. ServiceNow is going all in on AI. It won't keep you out of the door, but it can really help you to get in.

When you said , You have completed  Servicenow ITSM training , then you have to choose 

Are you interested on 

a. Non-technical Path

b. Technical Path.

If you are interested on non-technical path, then every project has Service management team , they look for a. resource who knows incident management, problem management , Change management  (How to create ticket, handle ticket, any issue assign ticket to tech team),

b. Or they Have MIM team  where you need to work  .

You need to have report, dashboard & Platform Analytics knowledge as well.

c. Also SLM team is there who support dedicatedly on SLA part.

d.Also you can go with Business Process Analyst Career Journey   //(Everything is based on your choice)

e. Quality Analyst : Go through the course testing related specifically ATF ( if you know ATF scripting ,, then its technical role)

If you are interested to go with Technical part-

Will suggest you to choose 

a.  Go through System Administrator Career Journey 

b. ServiceNow Certification:  Obtain ServiceNow CSA -> ITIL Foundation

    -> Module-specific CIS (e.g., ITSM) 

For both Tech/non-tech career path : 

c. Online Communities and Forums:
Engage with the ServiceNow community through forums, read query and answer and slowly start to contribute

d.Networking: Expand your network and participate in any events possible.

e. Apply for Entry-Level Positions:  apply & apply - don't give up.

Greetings 

Being a trainer let me try to share my thoughts.

You completed ITSM in 2025 and now we are on latest release not big but many changes come.

ITSM is just basic or pre requisite now a days what this mean is to get a job ITSM only will not help and you need to build you need build your portfolio 

Add more products like HRSD, GRC, SAM which are more in demand now a days , I am not saying to do cert, go for training first learn and build a confidance.

To get a bit more on practical side, spend atleast 2 hrs on community, give answer what members are asking this will help you to build your confidance and learning.

Restart preparation, you need to make plan don't be in hurry , make a dedicated schedule pick up a path

90 days use this time to prepare more, clear your basic that's important.

It’s important to know that ServiceNow is not limited to ITSM alone. You should explore other modules based on different product areas, such as HRSD, CSM, GRC, and more.

ITSM is a strong foundation, but it is better to learn additional modules like HRSD.

Along with ITSM, you should revise key concepts such as:

Incident Management
Problem Management
Change Management
Catalog Items
Record Producers
Reports and Dashboards
Update Sets

After that, you can start learning HRSD. For HRSD, focus on:

HR Case Management
HR Services
COEs (Centers of Excellence) and related tables
HR Criteria
Fulfillment process
Checklists
HR Templates
Subject Person and Opened For concepts
Employee Service Center (ESC) portal
How important is scripting for clearing interviews?

Scripting is important, but you don’t need to be an expert at the beginning. You should understand the basics and purpose of each component.

Focus on:

Client Scripts: onLoad, onChange, onSubmit, onCellEdit
Business Rules: onBefore, onAfter, Display, Async
Script Includes and their types
Common classes such as:
GlideRecord
GlideAggregate
GlideSecure
GlideDate and GlideDateTime
What is the best approach to restart preparation and crack interviews?

You can follow a simple daily plan:

Spend around 3 hours each day
Practice scripting concepts
Revise ITSM and learn HRSD step by step
Use your Personal Developer Instance (PDI) for hands-on practice

Consistent practice is key.

How should I manage the 90-day notice period while applying?

90 days is enough time, so don’t worry.

Stay calm and focus on preparation
Start applying once you feel confident
Rejections are normal—they help you improve
Each interview will give you better understanding and confidence

With consistent effort, you will definitely improve and succeed.
