Hi all!
Has anyone here faced issues with creating duplicate records while importing characteristics for product offerings when trying to export and import product catalog entities? I followed a bottom-up approach - first importing characteristics, then product specifications, and finally product offerings. I noticed that all the product specifications that have characteristics with options were imported in a draft state. After attempting to publish them and import product offerings but as they have relationships, characteristics ended up being imported twice due to their relationships. The interesting thing about that was that if I import product offerings from the top of the hierarchy (starting with the parent offering), the child offerings were automatically imported. In this case there were no duplicated records on child offerings, but the parent offering still had duplicated characteristics.
Thank you for all the help in advance!

Hi @Ksenija1 !
Did you try the following steps? Servicenow provide the functionality of both export and import product catalog entities between ServiceNow instances.
>When you're importing files to a target instance, import the files in a certain order, based on the type of entity:
1.Import the exported base entities first, for example characteristics, characteristic options, template, and Unit of Measure (UOM).
2.Import the product offering catalog if you're exporting product offerings.
3.Import product offerings, product specifications, and service specifications

Hi @Satoshi Abe,
Thank you for your response. The order was similar to what is outlined in the documentation file.
However, the characteristic options are not available in the drop-down menu in the Export Entities list, and we don’t have templates—this is the only thing I skipped as an entity. The following steps were carried out as listed in the provided link.
For now, we’ve fixed the issue manually, as we need it for testing purposes. However, we would like to understand how to resolve this correctly without any manual intervention in the future. As our catalog expands, manually managing errors and individual entries will not be a scalable solution.
Could you kindly advise on how we can address this issue reliably moving forward?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,
Thank you for your response. The order we followed was similar to the one outlined in the documentation file. However, I’ve encountered an issue where the characteristic options are not available in the drop-down menu in the Export Entities list, and we do not have templates so we don't need to export them. This is the only item I missed as an entity. The steps that followed were carried out exactly as listed in the link you provided.
For now, we’ve manually fixed the issue since we need it for testing purposes. However, we would like to understand how to resolve this correctly without any manual intervention in the future. As our catalog expands, manually managing errors and individual entries will not be a scalable solution.
Could you kindly advise on how we can address this issue reliably moving forward?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,
