I’ve recently started working with SOM, and I’m setting up a sample catalog to evaluate whether our current catalog can be migrated to ServiceNow.
Is it possible to configure promotions (e.g., for a specific use case or a particular product configuration)?
From my initial investigation, it looks like this functionality requires additional plugins. It doesn’t seem to be available in the standard SOM package, but I haven’t yet identified which plugins are needed.

Hi @simone007 ,
You are correct that configuring promotions in ServiceNow Sales and Order Management (SOM) is not included in the basic SOM package and generally requires additional plugins or modules.
Promotions in ServiceNow SOM
Promotions and Discounts Functionality:
ServiceNow SOM supports managing promotions such as discounts or supplementary offers tied to products or configurations via specialized list specifications and promotion setups. This enables defining applicable discounts for specific products, customer groups, or time frames with filtering and validation rules.Required Plugins:
To access full promotions functionality, you typically need plugins beyond the standard SOM setup, often related to Product Catalog and Pricing Management, and sometimes Product Configuration or Pricing Rules plugins from the ServiceNow Store or part of an enhanced licensing suite.
These plugins may not be activated by default and often require coordination with your ServiceNow account manager for license and activation. How to Enable and Configure:
Identify and activate the necessary plugins such as:
Product Catalog Management
Pricing Management and Discounting
Supplementary Product Configuration
Use the Promotion List Specifications and Discount List Specifications to define your promotional rules and applicability.
Configure related fields such as unit of measurement, product price, and customer eligibility on those promotion specs.
Promotions then apply automatically during quote and order creation based on conditions matching your setup.
Additional Notes:
Some advanced features, like automated promotional campaign management and claims, are part of Manufacturing Sales Promotion Management plugin (for manufacturing customers).
Promotions support fixed value or percentage discounts and may carry conditions like date ranges, minimum quantities, and customer group qualification.
Summary
Yes, ServiceNow SOM can do promotions, but you will need to activate additional plugins such as Product Catalog Management, Pricing Management, and promotional configuration plugins which are not included in the standard SOM package. After activating, configure promotions via List Specifications for discounts and supplementary offers per your product catalog.
