Can you explain AI Search and Zing?

I'm researching search engines, but I'm not sure which features are used and how.

Which function is used when searching on the knowledge portal screen?

I assumed that the text index would be used, so I assumed that Zing was the mechanism in place.

My thoughts

 

OOTB and legacy is Zing, which is used in the native view, WS, or portal. In the latest releases, AI Search was introduced, allowing migration from Zing to AI Search. You can set your preferences to choose AI Search in the portal or Zing in the native view. The latest addition is Gen AI or Now Assist, which allows you to use skills to search on the portal. I've recently set up Gen AI search and Now Assist for my users.
