In our previous blog, we shared an overview of how ServiceNow Fundamentals and System Administration Advanced are changing on October 31st. Now, we want to help guide you through these changes and what they mean for you.

ServiceNow Fundamentals (SNF) has long been the starting point for many learners on their ServiceNow training and certification journey. SNF starts with an introduction to the platform and basic UI navigation, before exploring more technical concepts for system administrators. But what if you already know the basics, and are ready to dive into the admin content? Or what if you’re not a System Administrator at all? Are these new courses applicable to you? Let’s start by breaking down each new course:

Welcome to ServiceNow

  • Welcome to ServiceNow takes all the introductory platform content from ServiceNow Fundamentals and puts it in a short, free course that is great for anyone who wants to learn more about the ServiceNow Platform, no matter what their next steps with ServiceNow training may be. It’s also available in English, Japanese, French, Korean, and German. Upon completion, you can go on to earn a micro certification to add to your resume.

ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals (Previously ServiceNow Fundamentals)

  • With the platform overview moved out into Welcome to ServiceNow, ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals (SNAF) now has room for additional content for Sys Admins and others continuing on in technical learning paths, like Implementers and Architects. The course includes nearly  twice the number of labs for hands-on practice in your ServiceNow instance, and best practices and tips from actual Sys Admins in the field. Content is also updated for the latest Tokyo release. You can find the detailed syllabus for SNAF here.
  • Upon completion , learners are eligible to receive or purchase a voucher for the Certified System Administration (CSA) exam, which you can learn more about here.

ServiceNow Administration Advanced (Previously System Administration Advanced)

  • For learners who are, or who want to become, System Administrators, and who have 6+ months experience on the platform of transferrable expertise, ServiceNow Administration Advanced (SNAA) now has even more relevant content. In addition to being updated for Tokyo, SNAA now includes content on adaptive authentication, data filters, best practices from the field, access and security, plus  one new module and three new hands-on labs. You can find the details syllabus for SNAA here.

So, by now, you probably have a good understanding of the “why” and the “what” behind these new courses. But what does this mean for our learners who have already completed ServiceNow Fundamentals or System Administration Advanced, or who have, or want to get, their CSA?

  • The first thing to know is that you’ll be equally prepared for the CSA exam or the CSA delta exam, regardless of which class you’ve taken (SNF for those registered prior to October 31st or SNAF for those registering on or after October 31st). For the CSA, we are continuing to ensure that only content that is common to both courses is covered in the exam. And for the delta, you can use the Tokyo release notes to help you answer questions on the “open-book” test.

  • The second thing to know is that, if you completed (or are taking) SNF or SAA, and want to learn more about the new content for system administrators, there are many resources available to you. Because these courses will be offered both as a live, instructor-led course, and as self-paced online course, you can enroll in the new courses and explore any new topics. While these courses are for-fee, we also have hundreds of free courses available on Now Learning, with more being added every week. We also encourage you to join the ServiceNow Community, where you can discuss Sys Admin topics (plus many more!) with others in the ServiceNow ecosystem. And, you can check out our Developer Portal and Customer Success Center, which also have great tools and resources for administrators.

One more quick note about the format of SNAF and SNAA: From October 31st, both courses will have a live and an on-demand option. In the on-demand courses, you’ll get a learning experience similar to instructor-led training, but with the flexibility of a self-paced course. In addition to the labs, knowledge, and ServiceNow practice instance, you’ll also now get access to the same course eBook that’s available if you take the instructor-led version of the course. This eBook helps you follow along, review course content, and prepare for your exam. Once you enroll in either SNAF or SNAA on-demand, you’ll see a new eBook tab on the course landing page, where you will find a voucher and instructions for accessing your eBook via a virtual bookshelf application.

Whatever course you’re enrolled in, or are planning to enroll in, we know it will be another important step in your ServiceNow learning journey. You can learn more about upcoming changes in our FAQ. Please, leave questions or feedback in the comments, and happy learning!
