Following on from my previous post, this is the fourth in a series documenting common validation errors that may be encountered in the Micro-Certification assessment simulator tasks.
Rather than providing the exact solution, these notes aim to help you troubleshoot validation errors by highlighting common pitfalls and guiding you toward the correct solution. The aim is to help you understand why validation fails, not just how to fix it.
Note: Some assessment simulator tasks assume that you are continuing directly from previous tasks and therefore still impersonating Platform User, even if this is not explicitly stated in the task instructions.
To build these guides, I deliberately validated the task before completing any steps to see what conditions were being checked. This allowed me to capture the full set of error messages that can appear when validation fails.
This assessment simulator task focuses on core platform functionality including:
- Creating a new Visual Task Board (VTB)
- Updating VTB lanes (renaming and deleting)
- Adding records to lanes
- Moving records to another lane
Below are the error messages encountered, along with some guidance on how to troubleshoot them.
- Was a VTB created and renamed 'My Incidents'?
This error relates to steps 1 and 2 of the task instructions.
When creating a new Visual task Board, make sure that you select the correct type (Freeform vs. Data Driven) exactly as outlined in the task instructions - this is being checked by the validation.
By default, your Visual task Board will be given a name of "A New Board created [timestamp]". This is checked by the validation so must be renamed exactly as per the task instructions. - Did you rename a lane to 'In Progress'?
- Did you rename a lane to 'On Hold'?
Both validation messages relate to step 3 of the task instructions.
Validation is focused on the presence of lanes with the correct names.
Tip: From my testing, the ordering of the lanes doesn’t appear to matter; however, I'd recommend renaming the lanes in the order outlined in the task instructions. - Were you able to add the 3 'On Hold' Incidents to the 'On Hold' lane?
This error relates to steps 1-3 of the "Populate and arrange the VTB" section of the task instructions.
Once you have added the 3x On Hold Incidents to your VTB, return to your VTB and verify that the Incidents are located within the correct lane.
Tip: You can use the 'History' menu to quickly navigate back to your VTB. - Were you able to add the 7 'In Progress' Incidents to the 'In Progress' lane?
As with error message 4, ensure the 7x In Progress Incidents are located within the correct lane once they have been added to your VTB.
As with the rest of this series, the aim here isn't to hand over the solution, but to help you think through the validation errors and understand where you may have deviated from the task instructions.
That way, you're not just completing the simulator task, you're learning how to troubleshoot it which should help if you encounter issues in real-world examples.
If you've experienced other pitfalls along the way, feel free to share them by commenting below.
