This post shares learning notes from troubleshooting lab validation issues encountered while working through the Platform Analytics module in the Welcome to ServiceNow (Zurich) course. It focuses on common error messages you may encounter if the validation fails.
Note: Some labs assume you are continuing from previous modules and still impersonating Platform User, even if this is not explicitly stated in the task instructions.
The aim of this task to to provide you with hands-on experience of the concepts covered in the Platform Analytics Lesson content including:
- Menu navigation
- Applying a filter condition
- Generating a Pie Chart from a list
- Creating a new dashboard
- Adding content to a dashboard
This task behaved slightly differently from others in this course. When I attempted to validate the task before completing any of the steps (to identify potential error messages), the lab validated successfully... oh the irony, eh!
To account for this, I reviewed related Community posts and noticed one recurring validation error reported by other learners
- Was a Pie Chart report created from the Priority field of all active incidents? Was there a new title for this report and was it saved?
This error points at being related to steps 1-11 of the task instructions however, I think it breaks down as follows:
a. Was a Pie Chart created from the Priority field of all active incidents?
Make sure selected 'Incident >> All' (not 'Incident >> Open') and that the correct filter condition is applied before right-clicking on the 'Priority' column header and selecting the 'Pie Chart' option.
b. Was there a new title for this report and was it saved?
I feel this is the part that catches people out the most and the key here in in the phrasing 'new title for this report'. Ensure you follow the task instructions fully and update the chart name via the 'Details' panel.
Tip: The 'Details' panel isn't the most obvious to find - it's the little ⓘ information icon highlighted in the screenshot below.
Refer to the screenshots below to see the difference between 'Chart title' and 'Chart name'
These notes (would usually) reflect my experience troubleshooting lab validation error while working through this task and form part of a series documenting common lab validation issue encountered while completing the Welcome to ServiceNow (Zurich) course. As I continue building my skills on the ServiceNow platform, I hope these posts help other learners navigate similar challenges. If you've encountered additional pitfalls, feel free to comment and share them below.
