I was recently put into a position of Configuration Manager at my company, however I have no experience in the ServiceNow platform. I have gone through the CMDB Fundamentals course, but I feel like I'm lost in every training that I've completed. I understand the general concept, but the processes are confusing to me.
What knowledge should I gain to help me understand what I'm looking at in the Now platform with regards to CMDB?

I would say that the first and foremost thing for you to decide is whether you are comfortable with navigating around ServiceNow (Requests, Incidents, Change Requests and Problems etc. followed by the operational aspects around these processes). All these processes work hand in hand with CMDB. As a Configuration Manager - CI Class Manager for example or maintaining the CMDB or the CMDB Health Dashboard in terms of Completeness, Correctness and Compliance. Ask yourself if you are able to handle these easily. If No then I would advise you on the Welcome to ServiceNow, System Administration Fundamentals/Implementation and the ITSM Fundamentals/Implementation courses. Focus more on the Lab exercises to work on the training instance.
On top of the above fundamental courses se is where CMDB Fundamentals or any any other courses related to CMDB would add more value. Also, familiarize your self with the lab exercises on the instances which could add to your comfort level getting around the tool across all modules. System Administration role comes with great responsibility so make sure you understand all the responsibilities it comes with its elevated access (for example over a itil user).
