Technical Consultant career

Hi everyone,

I'm from Argentina and I have around 2 years working with servicenow.

I have been working as a servicenow support consultant and at the same time as a spm implementer. I have learned about a lot of tools and servicenow knowledge. All the projects were OK with good results because always I worked with expert technical leaders so...they helped me to get everything right.

Today I'm thinking to improve my servicenow career and I my idea is to become a technical consultant in the future. You know what I mean...I would like to lead teams and to be an expert in the technical side as well as the functional side of servicenow.

I would like to read your suggestion about it. What paths do you think I should take, what tools, certifications, skills, your experience, etc. Anything you can think of.

Thanks!!!

Hi @Leonel Sandroni - have you checked out the Technical Project Manager Career Journey learning path on Now Learning? A great place to start:

Hi @Leonel Sandroni

@Simon Hendery correctly said start with TPM journey, and you already have technical skill. This journey will shape and provide you more depth knowledge.

Hi @Simon Hendery et al and thank you for posting this question @Leonel Sandroni .

My question is similar to Leonel's but from the point of view of getting started in a ServiceNow career.

I have over two decades experience in the tech industry and some of my most enjoyable roles have been as a technical team lead where I am both leading the team with project manager related responsibilities, etc. and at the same time directly involved in development.

In other words, I like to "keep my hands dirty".

I am brand new to ServiceNow with no work experience, so I am focusing on the technical certificates. I just achieved the CSA and working towards the Professional Application Developer certificate.  My rational is that, although I have strong industry experience, I need to understand how ServiceNow works in order to not only be productive but also be a desirable candidate.

Do you feel the TPMCJ is a prerequisite to pursuing a technical lead role?  I imagine that the answer may be it doesn't hurt to have both but I'm interested in striking the right balance between obtaining certificates and applying for jobs.

Thank you in advance for your insight!

Hi @dwschmid

As you have good experience of 20 years and also learning forCAD and done CSA which means now you have good understanding about the platform.

If you want you go back again in project management role, then go for PM journey else try to go more deep in other modules like ITSM,  ITBM etc.
