What helped you most when starting out with ServiceNow?

Hi everyone! 👋

I recently completed an internship where I was asked to specialize in ServiceNow. Over the past 6 months, I’ve taken several courses, explored labs, and applied what I learned. I’m still a beginner, but I wanted to share a few things that really helped me understand the platform better—and I’d love to hear what helped you too!

Here are a few things that worked for me:

Start with Filter Conditions
As a beginner, I found it easier to use built-in filter conditions instead of jumping straight into client scripts or business rules. They’re available in many places—you just need to explore a bit.
Note: Scripts are powerful, but starting simple helped me build confidence.

🎯 Apply What You Learn
After each course, I gave myself small tasks—like building a flow using Flow Designer. It helped me retain and understand the concepts better.

🚀 Keep Learning

Take more courses, explore the Developer Portal, and use the ServiceNow University. The more you learn, the more confident you’ll feel.

🧪 Labs Are Key
Don’t skip the labs in ServiceNow University courses. They’re hands-on and give you real confidence to work in actual environments.

🎤 Join ServiceNow Events
ServiceNow hosts online and in-person events—from global conferences like Knowledge 2025 to local SNUG meetups and AI summits. If you get a chance, definitely attend—it's a great way to learn, network, and stay inspired.

🔍 Do Your Own Research
If you get stuck, do some digging. The ServiceNow Community is incredibly helpful—I’ve been there, and it really works!

🧩 Understand the Connections Between Components
While exploring new components, try to learn how they connect to each other. For example, if you're working with a table, check which table it extends from. That can help you figure out which UI policies or business rules might apply. Everything in ServiceNow is connected—understanding those relationships will help you troubleshoot errors more easily and build smarter solutions in the long run.

Now I’d love to hear from others: What helped you most when you were starting out with ServiceNow? Any tips, resources, or habits that made a difference?

Let’s help each other grow! 🙌
