How to Show Parent RITM as a Related List on Child RITM

Hi all,

I'm working with Requested Items (RITMs) in ServiceNow and have a question about showing relationships.

Scenario:

  • I have two RITMs, let’s say RITM0011940 (parent) and RITM0011868 (child).

  • On the parent RITM (RITM0011940), there's a related list showing all child RITMs (including RITM0011868)—this works as expected.

  • However, when I open the child RITM (RITM0011868), I only see a "Parent" reference field (which shows RITM0011940 as the parent), but I don’t see any related list that points back to the parent.

What I want:

  • I would like both the child and the parent RITM to show each other in a related list view—so that when I open either RITM, I can see the other as related, not just as a single reference field.

What I’ve tried:

  • In "Configure Related Lists," I only see “Requested Item → Parent” (children), not an option to show the parent as a related list.

Question:

  • Is there a way to display the parent RITM as a related list on the child RITM

  • Or, is the only way to achieve truly bidirectional visibility to create a custom many-to-many (M2M) relationship table

Though it is possible to show it in a related list, it is recommended to show in reference field as only one parent is present always.

@aparnaravi

Parent RITM form should show Child RITMs as related list.

on Child RITM already Parent reference field is present.

Why to show related list again?

Child will always have 1 parent.

And then you can see it below:
