Using Process Automation Designer with an order guide for new starters

We are looking to use process automation with a new starter order guide.

Our new starter catalog item is requested by the line manager for their new starter and the first take includes creation of the new starter AD account which is also used to login to ServiceNow. The new starter workflow goes on to complete other tasks such as business application access.

The order guide allows hardware to be requested too but here we need the requested for to be the new starter so we have 2 requirements in the process automation:

That the hardware requests are not initiated until the AD creation task is complete. 

That the name of the new starter is used to overwrite the name of the requested for in the hardware requested items.

The first I'm trying to manage through conditions on the activity properties on the hardware items. These are in a lane following the new starter item. I want to set the condition to when stage of the item changes to Additional Requirements but whilst I've managed to select this I think by some roundabout way: Fulfil New Starter> Outputs> Generated Task Record > Catalog Task >Request item >Stage, it doesn't start when the condition is met. Instead it is skipped when the New starter Item is completed.

So i need to know if I'm on the right track here and how to get it to work.

Then I need some help getting the new starter user record details to replace their line manager details in the hardware requests.

I've not had any help with this yet but maybe a more focussed question:

I need to use process automation to wait until the first request item has progressed to a stage of Additional Requirements creation. I've tried setting the modify run conditions on either the next item., the next lane or as a wait condition in the first lane but they end up skipped.

The first request item will still be active but need the trigger when this stage is reached.

I've tried these: 

Some of these options show the stage choice others don't find values. What should i be setting to wait for the specific stage of the first request item to be achieved before starting the next ones?
