The Misconception
Users frequently attempt to use Enhanced Sync for initial building imports from Map Studio to WSD. It cannot. Enhanced Sync is a post-synchronization maintenance tool for systems already linked. The initial binding must be established manually first using the Indoor Map / WSD Synchronization tool.
Overview
A bidirectional data sync has been introduced between Indoor Mapping and WSD, ensuring that updates made in either plugin automatically sync to the other. Once configured, this eliminates manual re-syncing after every changes and helps maintain data consistency across both platforms.
Prerequisites
Before enabling Enhanced Sync, ensure:
- Initial sync complete: Run the manual Indoor Map / WSD Synchronization tool and completed the first-time linking
- Place type mapping configured: A strict 1:1 relationship exists between Space Types (WSD) and Place Types (Indoor Mapping)
- Sync properties defined: Configuration is set in the Enhanced Sync Properties Table to specify synchronization behavior
Setup: Configuring Enhanced Sync
- Navigate to Enhanced Sync menu in WSD administration
- Define Sync Properties — Configure which data flows between systems and how conflicts are handled
How It Works: The Bidirectional Flow
Map Studio → WSD
Map Admin edits a map in Map Studio (add buildings, rename places, reimport floor plans) and saves. Enhanced Sync automatically detects the change and queues it as a pending operation.
WSD → Map Studio
Workplace Admin updates Campus, Building, Floor, Space names, Enhanced Sync automatically syncs these back to Indoor Mapping.
Handling Retirements and Deletions
When a Place or Space is deleted or retired in one system, Enhanced Sync queues the operation but does not automatically propagate it. By default, the linked record in the other system remains active.
The Map Admin or Workplace Admin must explicitly review and approve the retirement operation in the Enhanced Sync Operations table:
- Accept: The Place/Space is retired or deactivated in the linked system.
- Ignore: The linked record remains active.
This requirement prevents accidental cascading deletions while maintaining control over data consistency. Ignored retirements create orphaned records and should be reviewed regularly.
