Hello ServiceNow Community,
I work as the sole ServiceNow Team (Developer and Admin) member at a credit union with approximately 500 employees. Our organization operates on a not-for-profit basis, which means budget constraints are a significant consideration. Recently, there has been interest in improving our IT Service Management (ITSM) practices, particularly regarding the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
Current Situation:
- Limited resources: We cannot afford to hire a dedicated CMDB administrator.
- Self-taught approach: I am considering learning CMDB administration independently.
Questions for the Community:
- Is self-learning a viable option for becoming proficient in CMDB management?
- What online resources (courses, forums, etc.) would you recommend for someone in my position?
- How can I demonstrate the value of the CMDB to our organization, given our financial constraints?

Yes. Self-learning is definitely viable. But it is a vast topic and so you need to ensure that you are learning continuously as part of your actual implementation & administration activities.

If you have access to Nowlearning, go through the CMDB fundamentals course whose URL is given below. Ensure that you complete the simulators also for practice.
Also go through the following 2 courses on CSDM fundamentals (Important to understand where to populate key elements like services) and CMDB health deep dive (So that you can properly track and improve CMDB health)
Also CMDB is a highly process-oriented area. So it is important that you learn about the configuration management process and discuss with your stakeholders to set up a configuration management process for your organization.
