Hi community,
I'm actually working on Service Offering configuration, for my customer.
I'm not specialized in this kind of subjects, but I have understood that a Business Service is a parent of several (or one) Service Offerings.
My question is about Category/sub category fields in Service Offerings : Service Offerings inherits from Business Services table, and Business Services table inherits from Configuration items table.
It also has the category and sub category fields, by inheritance.
Also, is there any sense that a Service Offering could have a category (and a subcategory) defined on it, as a Business Service could be compared to a category ?
Thanks for your feedback !
Mathieu.

Hi @mathieu_brule ,
from my perspective no, unless you have a specific business requirement where it is needed. But from a general perspective, then I would utilize them.

Hi Anders,
Thanks for your answer 🙂
"But from a general perspective, then I would utilize them."
Do you mean "would NOT utilize them" ?
Also, can we consider Business services/Service Offerings as kinds of respectively categories/sub categories ?

yeah, typed a little to fast. I meant I would not utilize them. I would suggest you to not look at services and offerings as categories, but instead align with a predefined taxonomy e.g. TBM, IT4IT or similar so you have a standardized approach… offerings are what the different teams offer through the service catalog where business services is a grouping of the different offerings,

Atul:
"It totally depends on the use case. If you want to use these categories/subcategories in incidents, changes, or other records, then populate them accordingly. Otherwise, keep them at the CI level only.
Just keep in mind — the more you add, the more you'll need to maintain
