CMDB Classes How are they Derived

Hi All--

In the CMDB we have many classes. Our team is asking "how is the class field being assigned to devices." 

Can anyone share how these devices are classified into classes within the CMDB? What is the logic for how ServiceNow derives/knows the classes.
