Hi,
How should we assign a naming format for the computer table in the CMDB? We have more than 40 records with the same "Name" value. Is there a specific naming format we should follow to avoid duplicate names?
Thanks.

Basically the IP address and/or the Serial Numbers are the unique criteria for computers, so it wouldn't be required to have unique names also. But if you are concerned, you have to add any other additional criteria to the names which makes them unique. It's up to you what you select, as it depends on what you have available.

If you look at the identification rules of any CI class by going to the 'Identification rule' tab of that CI class in CI class manager, you can see the list of attributes currently configured as the identifier entries for that class. You need to do the following:
1. Find the list of the data sources populating each CI class which you want to check
2. Discuss with the team managing each data source to understand the unique attributes used for various CI types in that data source
3. Compare the unique attributes of all data sources for each CI class with the current identifier entries for that CI class
4. Discuss your findings with the configuration manager, CI class owners, data source teams etc. to take a decision on whether you need to modify the identifier entries and how you need to modify.
It is not feasible to provide a specific list of attributes for any CI class as it varies based on each organization's infrastructure and data sources. So you need to follow the approach mentioned above.

@Maik Skoddow and @Ashok Sasidhara
I agree that other unique identifiers mean that these CIs with the same Name are not duplicate CIs.
But aren't there multiple places where a computer CI is selected by Name? Wouldn't selecting a CI by Name from multiple CIs with the same Name be really annoying, at best?
