What has been done in my CMDB dashboard: Who created something like that?

Hi CMDB fans,

Getting and keeping a CMDB in a good shape is important as many processes rely on a valueable  and trustfull CMDB. Monitoring on what is happening in the CMDB is of great importance in getting insights in probably unexpected and unwanted activities or failure or misbehavior of expected activities.

So I am thinking of a dashboard/ report showing daily reports on what has been done in the CMDB like numbers of Created, Retired CI's and Updated CI's and of the last ones what has been updated.

CI's that are discovered/ seen by source and are updated by what source and what is updated is also very interesting to know.

Having this in a trend-graph were based on the trends deviations of the normal trend can be determined and  actions triggered is the final goal.

Does someone know if this is already available or has someone already created something like this??

Looking forward to your response,

Best regards,

Ed

The following features will be definitely helpful for monitoring and improving your CMDB data quality:

1. CMDB Workspace - This is a centralized workspace for CMDB which shows many important data and insights. It also contains CMDB 360 view which will help to aggregate and analyse data from multiple sources populating the CMDB. The following URL has details about this:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-servicenow-platform/page/product/configuration-management/co...

2. CMDB and CSDM data foundations dashboards - It is a free store app which will give insights on many indicators about CMDB data quality and CSDM alignment. It also contains URLs to playbooks which explains each indicator and the detailed steps that can be taken to improve those. Details about this are available in the following URL:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-now-intelligence/page/use/dashboards/reference/cmdb-csdm-ind...

3. CMDB health dashboard - Configuring the health metrics for key CI classes and then activating the health scheduled jobs will give insights on CMDB completeness, correctness and compliance for those classes. More details are available in the following URL:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-servicenow-platform/page/product/configuration-management/co...

We utilize the CMDB health dashboard and scheduled health jobs. There are jobs which run daily that will create remediation tasks when duplicates are found, stale, orphan and missing recommended fields missing as well. By auto creating the tasks, they will get assigned to a team and then someone will have to address. The dashboard then is used to monitor overall health. We then broke this down further by the classes that we care about the most. Servers, network, PC's, etc.

Thanks for the tips! I am looking for an overview of CMDB changes over a certain period of time like 'Last day'. What has been changed in th CMDB? How many CI's are created, updated or retired. What were the sources for these updates? What has been updated?

Idea is to get an overview or trend over time so deviations on that trend can be recognized and analyzed.

Any suggestions/ idea's??

Cheers,

Ed
