Content Item: Open in same window

I have a requirement to use Content Items as category tiles, so that the content item's act as links to a subcategory. I would like it so that when the content item is clicked, the page is dynamically updated, rather than the link opening in a new tab. The content item is configured as follows:

I have also tried to update the 'target' within the SC Category widget, however it is still opening the category in a new tab. Is this functionality possible without too many custom changes?

Pls set the Target value as "New Window/Tab"?
