Hello,
How should the grid visually respond if the underlying data set changes in size? (e.g., Should the grid points always maintain the same spacing, causing the entire garden to grow/shrink, or should the spacing dynamically adjust to fit the available screen space?)

It depends on what the grid visually represents and how users interact with it.
If the grid represents physical or conceptual space (for example, a “garden” where each grid cell corresponds to a fixed unit, like 1m² or one logical item slot), then the grid spacing should remain constant. In that case, as the data set grows or shrinks, the garden should expand or contract proportionally, preserving the spatial accuracy of each grid point. The user can then pan or zoom to explore the larger or smaller area, maintaining a consistent sense of scale.
However, if the grid’s purpose is primarily data visualization or layout efficiency - where the goal is to display all items neatly within the available viewport, then it’s better for the spacing to dynamically adjust. This way, regardless of how many data points exist, the grid automatically resizes so that all content remains visible without requiring scrolling or zooming.
Typically, in most modern interfaces, the ideal approach is a hybrid: keep logical spacing constant at a conceptual level but introduce responsive scaling (like zoom-to-fit) when the data size changes dramatically or when the viewport is resized. This ensures the design remains both consistent and user-friendly, the grid behaves predictably while still adapting gracefully to available space.
