Is there a way to force encryption on an attachment variable on a catalog item?

I noticed this post and didn't know if this truly meant all attachments are encrypted out of box or not:

I am trying to encrypt an attachment variable on a catalog item. I don't want users to be able to select none out of box as an option. The data being uploaded in the attachments could be sensitive information so I want to make sure it's encrypted.

Is this possible?
