Hello Everyone,
I'm planning to take the ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) exam soon and would really appreciate some guidance from those who have successfully passed it or are currently preparing.
I have a few questions regarding the exam:
- How did you approach your preparation to successfully crack the CSA exam? What study strategy worked best for you?
- What are the most crucial topics or modules to focus on? Are there any specific study materials (like official docs, courses, or third-party resources) that you found exceptionally helpful?
- Approximately how much time (in terms of hours/weeks) did you dedicate to your preparation? I'm trying to gauge the commitment required.
- What is the overall difficulty level of the CSA exam according to your experience? Was it more conceptual, practical, or a mix of both?
Any tips, insights, or personal experiences would be immensely valuable.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Hi Gagan,
I would recommend you to go through the official CSA On-Demand course through ServiceNow University. Everything is covered as part of the course only. I gave almost a week to prepare for it(depends on how much practical exposure you have).
CSA is not too hard if you study well and do things practically.
Last point - please go through some Mock test for CSA(just search it on google).
Let me know if you need to know anything.
Best Regards,
Brahmjeet

Hi @gagan930
As a ServiceNow trainer, let me share my thoughts.
- How did you approach your preparation to successfully crack the CSA exam? What study strategy worked best for you?
Atul: The eBook or CSA training is the single best source of truth. Read the eBook 3-4 times, line by line and word by word, and do the labs 2-3 times as well.
- What are the most crucial topics or modules to focus on? Are there any specific study materials (like official docs, courses, or third-party resources) that you found exceptionally helpful?
Atul:All topics are crucial, but I recommend following the CSA blueprint to get a better idea of the percentage of questions from each section.
- Approximately how much time (in terms of hours/weeks) did you dedicate to your preparation? I'm trying to gauge the commitment required.
Atul: I’d say start with 3 hours a day—read a chapter and do the labs. When you read a chapter for the first time, focus on just one chapter per day, then do the labs the next day. During the exam week, just review theory notes and highlight key points if you have them.
- What is the overall difficulty level of the CSA exam according to your experience? Was it more conceptual, practical, or a mix of both?
Atul:It will be a mix—some very basic concepts and some scenario-based questions as well. But overall, the answers come only from the eBook or training materials—that’s 100% certain.
