With ITSM widely adopted, what other ServiceNow modules offer strong career growth opportunities?

Since ITSM is now a common area of expertise, what would be the next best module to learn in ServiceNow?
Would it be beneficial to start directly with Agentic AI and Generative AI?
Appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.

Another thing is that AI is usually subject to subscription/licensing and many of my clients were not willing to pay for it, of course it can change in near future, but even chat and case summary was something that the company were ignoring.

What I wanted to say is that the features are amazing and sooner or later will be omnipresent but for now, some companies select where they spend their expenses.

While the ITSM and some other modules will be there always, the AI just sometimes. At least as of today and for some companies I cooperated with...

Hi @siddheshagn .

As per my knowledge in current market, GRC and ITOM have got greater demand, along with HAM/SAM.

Apart from this, every module is on-demand, suiting your business needs.

Thanks.

Hi @siddheshagn,

AI is a trendy topic but it is not everything… it is a good to know it but still knowing some other modules will strengthen your position, there is no general answer in what would be the best module to learn, it strongly depends on many variables.

If you get knowledge in a particular module, then you will focus on different industry of the clients.

ITSM and CMDB is used in every single company, but so is the HR, so it is really difficult.

Do you have any preferences? How do you feel in overall platform knowledge?

Agentic AI/Gen AI are a different thing that ITSM/HRSD/CSM, etc. Don't look at the capabilities the same as the modules.

It all depends on what it is YOU want to do. Are you with a company that is using SPM and you want to stay with the company? Than SPM would be a great way to go and become an expert on that. Or is HR something you really like (you will speak a completely different language with HR people than you do with IT people), than go for HR.

And while doing that, take it further. Don't go for just CIS, but go for the CIS Suite Pro Plus (including PA, VA, and AI).
And you can work on the capabilities simultaneously: flow designer, platform analytics, anything AI (do realize that AI is here to stay, but in my opinion hugely overrated -> it's the next bubble). It will make it easy to apply your knowledge and experience from this into the modules you like to do (even ITSM).

Hi @siddheshagn

I’m a ServiceNow trainer and would be happy to guide you.

I agree with most of your points of @GlideFather  @Mark Manders , but I’d like to add that AI—especially Generative AI—is becoming essential. It’s being integrated across all ServiceNow modules. From a career perspective, this is a great time to enhance your portfolio.

Currently, the market has a high demand for HAM/SAM resources, followed by GRC, and then HRSD or CSM. I’d also recommend completing micro-certifications and the Sales and Sales Accreditations.

It really depends on the path you want to take—whether it's as a Developer, Business Analyst, TPM, or Product Owner. For each of these roles, there are dedicated learning journeys available on Now Learning.

Feel free to reach out if you need more information. Happy to help!
