Cannot search asset model with wildcard in mobile agent

When creating an asset with mobile agent, I need to select a model, but the search for model only returns results which begin with my search terms. I can't use wildcards to search for models which contain my search terms.
If I enter 3com, there are 3 results - one of them is 3Com Fiber Options
If I enter fiber there are no results. I have also tried *fiber, "*fiber", '*fiber'
How do I allow wildcards in my search for the model?
