Whilst I understand that the key new feature of EC is the curated Taxonomy and Topics, is it possible to have a quick link out to show the Service Request catalogue in its current form with items still existing in their current categories? Whilst the topics give a great experience, we have users who will still want to browse the old way.
An important part of this understanding that the URL address for individual items does not change because they are still in their same home, so any embedded links directly to KAs or Items will still work?

Understood. Assuming the hyperlinks contain sc_cat_item page in the url for catalog items and kb_article for the Knowledge article hyperlinks, then all should be well. Having Employee Experience Taxonomy turned on and associated with your Employee Center portal doesn't deprecate any previously used portal pages. The Portal pages are there to be used no matter what portal your end users are leveraging. Best of luck to you!

Another point to keep in mind is that Service Catalog categories and EC Topics will continue to exist but will serve two different purposes.
1. Topics/Sub-Topics are using to guide EC mega-menu and navigation
2. Service Catalog Categories, will continue to be used to manage service catalog items for Catalog Managers/Authors. It provides controls and separation for these roles to manage their part of the overall service catalog. Has no impact on EC display.
