Migrating from SP to ESC - Categories and Topics

Hello everyone,
We're currently in the process of migrating from SP to ESC in term of the Service Catalog.
ESC uses Taxonomies, Topics, in SP we are used to Categories and Subcategories.
We'd like to have a "Service Requests" main topic and underneath it to keep the original categories and subcategories.
Is there anyway to make ESC use categories same way as it is using topics? or do we have to create same topics following the categories hierarchy?

I have reached to configuring Menu Items, I added a new menu item and it's not showing in the portal, it's a Core portal not Pro if that matters:

In the left Navigator go to Employee Center -> Advanced Portal Navigation
Open existing record or Create new record
Then, in the Menu Items, add your menu Service Catalog and save it
Then, in the Service Catalog Menu Item, add your category and subcategories.
