RCE - Use Content Templates when creating publish plans

Hello, with the addition of the News Center functionality within EC/ECP we are working to migrate away from our custom news widget and utilize the Rich Content Editor for creating news items. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for regular business users to publish their own news content and I had a question regarding the use of "content templates."

I see that you have the option of using content templates on the "Design" tab when creating content, but you're only able to select one template.

In the scenario where a news article needs to be published to more than one page (e.g. the home page and a topic page), there isn't the option to add a second content template. On the "Publish" tab, you have to manually choose the page, widget, taxonomy, and topic from the drop-down lists.

To avoid business users from having to remember which page template, widget, taxonomy, etc. to use it would be much nicer to be able to have them select another content template that we could define for them. Or if there is a way to use another template where we can define those values for them, that may work too.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

@Ashley Heath , glad to hear you are adopting this feature.

Content template is designed to have multiple destinations (publish plans), please look at OOB content template News Default. When a content template with multiple content destinations is applied to a content, a publish plan is created for each content destination.

Please mark this as helpful and accepted solution if applicable.

Thanks Pooja, I'll take a look at that. We can probably work on creating some templates for the common combinations of posts (e.g. home page and a topic page), but it would still be very helpful if we could utilize templates on the "Publish" tab so the business users don't have to remember how to select the right page, widget, taxonomy, etc. and we could pre-define it for them.

You can pre-define the right page, widget, taxonomy etc. by associating multiple content destinations to a content template.
