Like the question states, can we use a third party barcode scanner to scan assets into ServiceNow without having to subscribe to HAM PRO. I am not interested in using the Mobile App as cellular devices are now allowed in our work environment. Thank you in advance!

Hi @Icon101
Yes, I’ve done this before on the mobile app but it was a long time ago but remember it being really easy. The link below may not give you config side however if you check the base you may find it. If this doesn’t answer the question let me know and I’ll dig out the exact method.
but as this is something you can get anyway without HAM Pro suppose you could use a 3rd party if you wanted.
Please mark as helpful or if it’s resolved the issue, CORRECT!

Thanks Andrew for the response. Unfortunately we cannot use mobile / cellular devices in our work environment for security reasons. We would need to use a "third party" barcode scanner with a usb plugin. I just can't find anywhere that mentions if 3rd party scanners work with ServiceNow without having to have HAM PRO.

This is something that doesn’t get asked! However I’d say the principles would work but require some integration/customisation.
Youd need a scanner plugged into your machine or server, from there you’d need an api from said source and business rule it to the record.
In theory it sounds simple, someone did it with a coffee machine at an event I went to so it’s do’able.

Actually you can get ones which plug directly into your laptop so might be worth checking the config of how it works… I’m not familiar with 3rd party barcode scanners so might be as easy as point and click! However for as cheap as £12 I’m really tempted to try it out myself! 😂
