Hi There,

I'm new to the HAM process and our company hasn't had the role before now so I'm wondering what would be your usual go to tasks to be aware of to help kick start the process?

Some helpful tips or reports you like to run would be great starting place for me.

Thanks,

Gareth

Hello @GChat

Succes packs provide guidance on how to implement a ServiceNow solution for a specific module.

Please go through HAM in success packs. Below is the link

Please mark the answer as helpful and correct if helped.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I was more hoping for tips and trick from people already in he position i.e. what are your go to reports in snow? What do you look for when you log on each day? Any helpful tips on what to avoid even?

Sorry if wasn't clear initially

I have explained some of the best practices in my article shared above. You can check the 'Operations and Governance' and 'Continual improvements' sub-sections for some key points to check after implementation.

You can check the HAM process guide on Nowcreate for a detailed description of the process activities typically involved.

Additionally sharing some points below to answer your specific questions:

i. Users can check HAM workspace to find most of the key information needed for their daily tasks

ii. Hardware asset overview dashboard can be used to see important reports and action items

iii. Most important thing to avoid is lack of governance. A well established process and strong governance to enforce that the process is followed is critical for HAM.

iv. Data quality is very important. Normalization will happen automatically through content service for most records (if HAM pro is available). Action should be taken to periodically review records which are not fully normalized and then normalize them manually wherever possible.

Ensure that foundation data, CMDB data and Asset data are all monitored periodically for data quality issues and then actions must be taken to mitigate data quality issues. It is important to keep Asset and CI records in sync. Refer following URL for more details about this:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/washingtondc-it-asset-management/page/product/asset-managemen...

v.  The various teams involved in HAM like asset operations team, contract management team, procurement team, finance team etc. can look at the relevant sections in the HAM workspace and work on their respective tasks. Every team involved in the HAM operations should be consulted while defining the process and they should be educated about the process after process finalization. After implementation, they should be educated about how to perform their respective operational activities in ServiceNow.

vi. It is important to ensure that Asset lifecycle flows for end to end lifecycle management of assets (from planning till disposal) is configured so that asset information is automatically updated during lifecycle activities.

vii. The HAM process and ServiceNow HAM configuration should be periodically reviewed so that continual improvements can be done based on process gaps identified, new features introduced in ServiceNow etc.
