Hardware Asset - Process of creating models

We currently have Discovery, SG sources (AWS, Azure) and manual entry feeding our CMDB. As a result, CIs and assets are being created. We are trying to figure out the best way for new product models to be created in the system.

I was wondering about the best practices others have experienced in creating hardware models. For hardware with serial number (PC, servers, network appliances)

(a) Do you let automated sources like Discovery, SG sources create new models OR

(b) Let your asset team create models manually upon receiving the shipment OR

Is it a combination of both based on your scenario?

In following your process, do you minimize creation of duplicate models?

Thanks for your time reading this post and providing your comments. It's helpful to hear from all the wonderful community members.

It is better to automate the model creation as much as possible. Getting the model data normalized through the HAM content service is the best possible method. If your organization is not using HAM, you need to decide the best process by discussing with your CMDB and asset stakeholders (E.g. Create models automatically during CMDB data population and then have a process to periodically review it OR Allow only new model creation during data insert and prevent it during data updates)
