How Discovery works for getting HAM into Servicenow

Hello Team,

I am pretty much new to a process for HAM and Discovery.

In my company HAM was already implemented and now who implemented was not there and also no documents are available.

1) Can any one suggest me, will Discovery automatically creates HAM Models, Assets, CI's from Midserver  into Servicenow Instance. If not should we want to create the models Manually?

2) In the Assets and CI's all the fields are not getting populated, some are manually getting entered. How to get all the fields from Midserver to populate in Assets and CI's. Where exactly I should check why all the fields are not getting populated.

Thanks in Advance.

Discovery will populate only the CMDB directly. Assets will be created automatically if the CIs populated belong to a model category which has an asset class associated with it and if 'Enforce CI verification' is unchecked on the model category record. Following URL has details on model categories and their fields:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/vancouver-it-asset-management/page/product/product-catalog/task/t...

The value populated on 'Asset tracking strategy' field on each individual model record

belonging to a 'model category' can override the model category configuration to prevent creation of assets. This is explained in following URL:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/vancouver-it-service-management/page/product/product-catalog/refe...

Models will be created by discovery only if the model populated for a CI is not present already in the product models table. If you are using HAM pro, the content service will normalize most of the models to standardized values.

Also check the following URL for more details on Asset and CI management:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-it-asset-management/page/product/asset-management/concept/c_...

The following URL has some info on data which is collected by discovery:

https://docs.servicenow.com/en-US/bundle/vancouver-it-operations-management/page/product/discovery/r...

You can use multisource CMDB feature to check for details of CI attributes and their data sources:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-servicenow-platform/page/product/configuration-management/co...

Is there a document with detailed requirements for data sources that create CIs/Assets and what is required to properly normalize the models from a data source?

Check the following detailed article about normalization:

https://www.servicenow.com/community/ham-articles/quick-start-guide-normalization/ta-p/2990492

Regarding documentation for data sources, there will be requirements and information which may vary depending on the data source. Are you looking for information on any specific data source?

Currently using Big Fix but are there documentation per data source?
