Offboarding is a hard, often stressful, process for managers and their teams. When a team member leaves, the manager is responsible for managing an extensive knowledge transfer. Meanwhile, they need to keep morale on the team high. However, managers often do not have the resources, experience, or time to organize and facilitate a great offboarding process for their teams.
Journey Accelerator helps managers facilitate a seamless offboarding experience, so they can provide a positive experience for the departing team member and a smooth hand off for the rest of the team. Managers can leverage organization-provided templates to then personalize and build out their own offboarding plans. They can assign to-dos to other team members to help with the process (if appropriate).
See the corresponding Employee Experience Pack which contains Journey Accelerator templates we created to help you build a seamless offboarding experience for your managers and teams.
How can Journey Accelerator Complement an Offboarding Lifecycle Event?
Journey Accelerator can be used with or without Lifecycle Events. For those of you who use Lifecycle Events in your organization, you may be wondering the difference and when you should use Lifecycle Events vs. Journey Accelerator. To summarize, Lifecycle Events helps manage experiences across departments to support employee and admin productivity. Meanwhile, Journey Accelerator eliminates manager’s manual tasks, so they can be more productive and provide the employee an enhanced experience as they navigate their transition.
In a Lifecycle Offboarding Event, all ‘organization-required’, cross-departmental activities are triggered. Activities can include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitating the collection of the employee’s badge, laptop, and other company assets
- Transfer of benefits
- Removal of systems access
- Distribution of information regarding separation policies
- Conducting exit interviews
From the Lifecycle Event, admins can trigger the creation of a Journey Accelerator plan. Journey Accelerator plans should include the recommended activities that create a best-in-class offboarding journey for the departing team member, manager, and rest of the team. Journey Accelerator eliminates the manual tasks a manager should do as part of the journey. Activities can include, but are not limited to:
- Knowledge transfer between team members
- Team farewell activities
- Ongoing activity handoff
- Team communications
- Ensuring departing team member keeps in touch and joins the alumni network
The Employee Experience:
Managers create a plan for their departing team member. They can assign another team member as a mentor to help facilitate the process as well. Then, with the help of the organization-provided templates, the manager can assign out to-dos to ensure a seamless offboarding.
Manager creates new offboarding plan:
Manager views the organization-provided template:
Manager adds new team-specific to-dos:
Departing employee views and completes plan:
Mentor views the plan and completes their to-dos:

Configuring the Integration
For a full demo of how to build out the Journey Accelerator experience, you can refer to this Journey Accelerator Community Academy Session which walks you through building out templates step by step. When building out this experience for your organizations, you can work with learning and development teams, departments leads, and other responsible teams to curate the content in the templates as desired.
Here is a brief overview of how to get started:
1) Navigate to ‘Manage Plan Types’ and create a new plan type for ‘Offboarding’.
2) Navigate to ‘Manage Plan Configurations’ and create a new plan configuration for offboarding.
a. You can specify specific audiences to apply the plan configuration. Maybe you want to roll these templates out to only a small group of people. You can use audience to specify that group of people.
b. Associate the plan configuration to the plan type you created in Step 1.
3) From the ‘Manage Plan Configurations’ related list, you can add new stages (i.e. ‘Knowledge Transfer’).
4) From the stage related list, you can add to-dos (tasks).
5) Once done adding stages and to-dos, navigate back to the plan configuration and make sure it is ‘Active’.
6) The plan configurations are available for use by managers.
