We are going to implement HRSD for our HR department.  Can any expert give us what are high level steps for HRSD implementation?

Hi Loe

My team implemented HRSD two years ago.   I would like to share some with you.

  1. Defining HR Operating Service Model (HR Taxonomy) for HR Services of each COE.
  2. Configure HR Operating Service Model for all COEs defined for your company
  3. Design and implementing HR Case, which is a parent for all COE cases
  4. Implementing HR catalog items based on HR Taxonomy framework defined for your company
  5. For each COE HR case, please go "Customer Success Center" using following link https://www.servicenow.com/search-result.html?q=HRSD&p=1 or find by a key word "HRSD" to find Use case

You can create your own HR Taxonomy template based on installed OOB HR Taxonomy.   The attached is sample template we used for your reference.  You also need to define Catalog items in this template as well.

Hi Loe,

As suggested by @Mark Roethof, I would start with the Customer Success Center.  Very high-level you need to do the following, if you are planning to do this in-house and not work with a partner:

  1. Attend HRSD Fundamentals and HRSD Implementation training courses.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
  2. Ensure standardized processes as much as possible
  3. Determine the organization's maturity/readiness for the change and what's in scope based on our subscription (don't have to go-live with everything day 1)
  4. Gather requirements for everything that is in scope from all the necessary stakeholders and SMEs (document and get sign-off on those).  For some things, this will/should require collaboration with other ServiceNow tenants (e.g., IT for any knowledge changes, mobile, employee center/portal)
  5. Get recent clone from PROD to the lowest sub-prod instance (e.g., DEV).  If the instance releases are out of sync, upgrade DEV again, if needed.
  6. Activate the necessary plugins and applications in the lowest sub-prod instance
  7. Configure all the requirements in the lowest sub-prod instance
  8. Perform technical testing to ensure requirements working as expected
  9. Promote configuration and data elements (not everything "configured" is captured in update sets) to next sub-prod instance (e.g., TEST).  Would suggest a recent clone from PROD to TEST before the promotion to ensure the promotion to PROD is predictable.
  10. Train the stakeholders on the platform and application  (organizational change management should be happening throughout the implementation - communications, training and testing plans)
  11. Stakeholders perform UAT and sign-off
  12. Promote configurations and data elements (which may include itil change management and architecture review board approvals, so plan in advance)
