Default value not working

Hello,

I have a field with a default value that works on new incidents however when I try to use the "update selected" option in Service Now, the default option does not work. Is there a way to make a default option when doing "Update selected" as well?

Where are you seeing "Update selected"? Was this default value set after the field was created or was the field created with a default value after records were already created (i.e. 'How can I set the default value on existing records?')

These aren't existing records. I can create a couple new incidents with the default value set.. then when I do "Update selected" the default value is taken away.

I'm right clicking the top of the list and seeing it in the UI action menu. Please see below:
