Good morning,
for managing the Knowledge articles I need to have two different roles
- for insert new articles
- for editing articles
who insert articles may edit one
who edit articles cannot insert a new one
is it possible to achieve this goal?

Hello,
Please find the roles below:
Giving edit access will give the creating access also as "Knowledge" role is a fulfiller role by default.
1. For editing Articles : use Knowledge role
2. For creating new Articles : Use knowledge manager or Knowledge role.

I have added the Knowledge role to my users but they still are not able to edit a published article

Hello Luca,
Check the knowledge bases section of the published knowledge article and see whether there is a record there for your knowledge base, I can see in my out of the box latest instance there are options over who can edit articles etc, which publish workflows it's using, who can contribute etc, so I would start there but out of the box it appears to be ok for me.
If needed add role to the "Can Contribute" section so that it can be edited by users having the role.
