Reference type fields not working properly in Time Sheet Portal

I am adding fields in "Time Sheet Portal". When I add a reference field, it is showing exact dropdown options in the picker as of the reference table but upon selecting any option, it is not saved to the backend table of Time card. 
All the custom string fields are working properly but reference type fields have this issue.
As you can see in picture attached, 'Contract' field is showing exact options.

but if I select any option, it just displays None.

How to resolve this issue

Thankyou for sharing bro. I have seen it but it is showing how to fill and use Time sheet portal. Can you please help how to solve reference type field issue.

is this OOTB config or some customization was done on this?

@Ankur Bawiskar bro I have added custom fields.  Custom string fields are working fine but custom reference fields have this issue. 

If I change value of u_contract on backend table, the change appears on Portal but if I change value on the Portal, it selects record but doesn't display change on backend table.
