Hi Anuj,
There isn't any documentation available on that but it has no say in limitation of entries. You can check link where ServiceNow talks about all required fields that has some dependancies.
There are 'N' number of fields on different tables but document provides details of relevant ones & the ones that are actually needed or has some dependancies.
Also, the feature of tags are available since inception of ServiceNow so earlier there would have been some limit set & thus would have had this field but over the time it does not make any difference with the value in it.
