Career Advice: Accepting a contract Role in servicenow

SUGAGURU

Hi everyone,

I’m seeking some guidance on a career decision. I have 9 years of overall experience and 11 months of relevant ServiceNow experience. Due to personal reasons, I had to leave my previous permanent role and am now actively looking for opportunities.

I recently received an offer for a ServiceNow position at Accenture, but it’s through a third-party payroll (Quess IT Consultancy). Most opportunities I’m finding are contract-to-hire, even for admin-level roles, which often demand 4–5 years of ServiceNow experience.

Should I consider accepting this contract role to build my ServiceNow career, or would it be better to wait for a permanent position? Would starting on a contract basis affect my long-term growth in ServiceNow?

I’d appreciate any advice or insights from the community.

Thank you!

We can't answer this for you, because we don't know your situation. Working on contract base isn't giving much security towards the future, although you do know that it's going to end.

If you want to stay in the SN ecosystem, any job will learn you more than no job, but working on a contract, you won't be supported by your employer in taking courses/paying for certifications, etc. That's something you need to invest your own time (and money) into.

If you want to build your career within ServiceNow, this job will help you more than waiting. In the end, a resume with work experience is always better than a resume that just shows that you have certifications, but no experience.

Just know that a 'permanent position' isn't permanent if the fit isn't there. Even if you are hired by the company you work for, you can still be fired. So taking contract work will also give you the opportunity to show Accenture what you can do (maybe they will hire you) or the third party and they give you a next assignment.

If your choice really is taking it or waiting, don't go for the waiting, because you won't build anything with that.

Hi @SUGAGURU

Practically it is a tough decision, don't join or join, but you need to analyse this at your end. If I say, as you are job less and you are getting a job which helps you to pay your bills then go ahead, also as you just have 11 months experience in SN, and Accenture itself is a brand, so you must join, you will get learning and experience and at last money matter, you can pay your bills. It is not guaranteed how much time it takes to get a permanent position. Hope these points help you to make a decision.

Hi @SUGAGURU ,

You will be the best decision maker on this regards, no one else can take. Providing you few points which help you take your decision easily.

Contract is not good if:

  1. Looking for long term opportunity.
  2. Your family is not dependent on you.
  3. You are not concern about organization benefits.
  4. Stability does not matter to you.
  5. You are not afraid of firing, as they will release you as client project is over.

Contract is good if:

  1. can not wait more as you are in a need of money.
  2. You will get good hike as compare to permanent.

If your priority is gaining ServiceNow experience quickly, enhancing your skills, and building your network, accepting the contract role at Accenture can be a smart decision. However, if job stability, long-term growth, and benefits are more important to you, it may be worth waiting for a permanent position. Ultimately, the decision depends on your current needs and career goals.
