Down Detector like experiences...

Has anyone had experience in developing features similar to Down Detector, in which, for example, Incident volumes for a given Service offering are shown to visitors of the Help Portal, making it easier for an end user to both observe ongoing trends, and, if needed, simply log their own occurrence if they are impacted? 

 

How have you gone about it? Are there any features you would point to?

 

I am curious about whether others have found this a helpful way of improving transparency for end users, while also motiving individuals to actually log Incidents when their work is disrupted and following Process.
