How difficult is it to pass the CSA Exam?

Is it unrealistic for an absolute beginner to be able to ace the CSA exam with only a month of proper work put in? Is practical developer knowledge on ServiceNow essential or is it doable otherwise?

I have no prior experience with ServiceNow apart from doing the Fundamentals course and the LabX series.

Hi @VisharaJ

The CSA exam is not particularly difficult, and prior work experience is not a prerequisite for success. The key is consistent practice and a solid understanding of the fundamentals.

A good preparation approach is:

  • Study the course content thoroughly.
  • Reinforce concepts using a Personal Developer Instance (PDI).
  • Practice regularly with mock questions and sample exams.

The more you combine learning with hands-on practice, the easier it becomes to understand the exam questions and identify the correct answers. Focus on building a clear understanding.

Tips:

Note: Once registered, you have 90 days to schedule and complete your exam.

Hi @VisharaJ

Here's a polished version of your message:

Very valid question, and as a ServiceNow trainer, I’m happy to guide you.

I agree that ServiceNow is getting bigger, broader, and deeper. Simply reading one book or completing a few labs is no longer enough to fully prepare for the exam. My recommendation is that a candidate should spend at least 3–6 months learning the platform. Training is important, but you also need to invest time understanding the terminology, concepts, and overall platform architecture to build a clear foundation.

Start with the basics. Follow the learning curriculum, read the eBooks, complete the training, and work through the exercises. Don’t assume that because you know a topic, you can skip it. Build a strong foundation first and then move forward. Also, spend some time in the ServiceNow Community. Review the questions administrators and developers are asking, and understand the logic behind the answers provided by experienced members.

The second area to focus on is practical knowledge. Hands-on experience is extremely valuable. If you have a development background, that can be a significant advantage and a quick win. However, it’s important to understand the platform not only from an administrator’s perspective but also from a developer’s point of view.

In addition to formal learning, watch videos and practical demonstrations to deepen your understanding of key topics. I’m sharing my latest CSA Admin playlist, which covers many important concepts and includes practical examples to help you better understand the topics and prepare for the exam.
