Hello everyone, I’m trying to understand the specific use cases for Dashboard Filters vs. breakdowns.
Could someone clarify the differences between Dashboard Filters and Breakdowns in ServiceNow Performance Analytics? Specifically, when should I use one over the other, and how do they impact the data displayed on a dashboard?
Any examples or best practices would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Hello @Soumaya JERBI1 ,
Please see the ServiceNow documentation for further understanding: https://docs.servicenow.com/en-US/bundle/utah-now-intelligence/page/use/performance-analytics/concep...
In general, Breakdown source is needed for breakdown to work - Breakdown is only utilized for Performance Analytics reports.
Interactive filters is utilized for normal reports, to change report according to Assignment group, category or whatever you need to.
Breakdown act as interactive filter, is where a dashboard contains both Performance analytics widgets and normal reports. Here you can utilize this functionality to only breakdown by assignment group, category ect. which will change both performance analytics widgets and normal reports at the same time.
Dashboard Filters
- Purpose: Dashboard filters allow users to filter data across multiple widgets on a dashboard. This means that when a user selects a specific filter criterion (like a date range or a category), it dynamically updates all the widgets on the dashboard to reflect that selection.
- Usage: Ideal for providing a cohesive view across different performance metrics, allowing users to see how various data points relate to the same filter criteria.
- Functionality: Users can create multi-dimensional filters that apply to all the elements on the dashboard, ensuring that insights are consistent and relevant across different visualizations.
Breakdowns
- Purpose: Breakdowns are used to segment data within a single widget. They allow users to analyze the performance metrics by specific categories or dimensions, such as by region, department, or priority level.
- Usage: Useful for drilling down into data to see how various segments contribute to overall performance metrics, offering a more detailed view within individual widgets.
- Functionality: Breakdowns typically modify the way data is displayed in a specific visualization, providing insights into variations within the dataset.
I hope this will help you.
