Lab Instance not in use

Hi everyone,

I am Abiola and I am new in this community.

My ServiceNow personal developer instance is close to expiring, and due to some personal commitments, I haven’t been able to use it yet.

I’m not looking to request an extension or a new instance at this point. I just want to understand what typically happens when an instance expires unused, and what the best next steps are when I’m eventually ready to start learning and practicing on the platform.
Any guidance on how to approach this properly would be appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Thank you.

Hello @abiolaadeba,

If a personal developer instance expires unused, it’s simply reclaimed by ServiceNow and no data is retained. When you’re ready to start learning, you can request a fresh instance anytime from the Developer Portal.

A good approach is to spin up your instance only when you’re ready to actively implement and practice.
Also, if you want to avoid losing your work, you can capture your configurations and customizations in Update Sets and keep them with you, so they can be reapplied to a new instance later if needed.

Hi @abiolaadeba

Welcome to the community!

PDI doesn’t come with support, which means if it is not used, it can be reclaimed and no one can help you take it back. To avoid this, make sure to log in to PDI every day so that it is marked as active. You will get 10 days of inactivity, and after that, the PDI will be taken back.

When an unused ServiceNow PDI expires (typically after 10 days of inactivity), it is reclaimed by the system. You will lose all configurations as the instance is wiped. When ready, you can simply request a new PDI from the developer portal to start fresh.
