Discovery models with empty software model and discovery map

Hi all, I need a hand in the small of my back as I cannot see how to deal with this problem.

I have a software product on my estate and there are 4 different display names listed in the installations report.  Of these 4 different names only two have a discovery map and software model listed against them.  The other two discovery models show empty for software model and discovery map.

I have manually normalised the two products with empty values but cannot see how to assign the discovery map and software model, it should be the same map as the map allocated to the 'working' models'. I know that this is working backwards but how do I assign a software model and Discovery map?

Hi @andynewey,

could please share screenshots for better understanding. Thanks!

In general, a software model contains of the following main attributes (Publisher, Product, Edition, Version). These are the same products a discovery model can be identified. A discovery map is a managed object by the content team to provide details about the model itself based on the mention attributes, the DMAP is also responsible for downgrade rights linked with the software model.

A DMAP can be selected on software model level, but is not part if the discovery model. The mentioned field "Software Model" is no longer used by SAM Pro during the reconcile, it's outdated and will be deprecated. I know the model field is updated and matches in many cases the expected model, but not always. The reconcile will ise the linked DMAP or the plain main attributes to link the software model with all matching discovery models. Please use the Related link "Show matching discovery models" to get insights into all models used during the recon for this model.

Best, Dennis

Apologies for the late reply but I was off work due to illness.

The problem is that the last two discovery models do not have a discovery map or software model assigned to them.  This is causing an incorrect licence count as they are not being recognised.

I cannot see how to allocate the software model and discovery map to these two models that do not have a model and map assigned. I would like to assign the same software model and discovery map as the two discovery models already assigned a model and map.

1.  So in the Discovery Models snip you can see that two models do not have a software model or discovery map assigned.

2.  In the installed software snip you can see that all four versions from the discovery model snip are installed.

3.  There is only one software model listed in SAM Pro

4.  This is the detail of the discovery map
