Exclude CIs from SAMP license use

It looks like Discovery that was run for ITOM is using SAMP license

Is there anyway to exclude a CI from SAMP - but still use it in ITOM ? - can you even exclude a complete CI class like Servers

Currently in our DEV system I would actually just like to focus on Cloud Subscription user CIs not Server CIs for now

This will become more important when we move everything to PRD

Hi @Stu2025,

please get in touch with your platform admins or any developer supporting your platform to get this new column created and added to the form. As this field is added to a platform core table the change needs to be reviewed and approved by the platform team.

The following video is a good example about the whole process - https://youtu.be/FZUY2l1LLQY?si=CI_VlU-itO_6WN4D

In this video, we will see how can add custom or new columns in Table and then add them on the form. Please subscribe to my channel. https://www.youtube.com/c/HarditSingh #servicenow #servicenowquebec #quebec #survey #post #chat #chatbot #servicenowparis #servicenoworlando #servicenowdeveloper ...

Hi @Stu2025,

the feature is called "Exclude from SAM" and well documented here - Exclude software assets on CIs

Hi Dennis - I have been exploring this option - it looks like the documentation misses a number of steps - do I need to specific a choice or choice table for true/false column - also how do I select a device for exclusion - is this a manual step ? - I feel like I probably need to change a form or list layout to display this column/option somewhere to actually mark it as True for a device

Hi @Stu2025,

the mentioned "True/False column" is a standard object to can add to your list, it's not required to create a choice field or table for this. How to select the devices is based on your policies and the implemented logic. It could be a manual step to set the value to true or you use a script/job to update the value e.g., weekly. Correct, the field is by default not visible and needs to be added to the list and form view.

Hi Dennis

I am trying to find exactly which list or form picks this up to add the column - I did expect to see it in the list of available fields or columns on the left hand side of the personalization dialog box but it is not showing which suggests there is a previous step i missed

I am just testing this currently and want to add 1 device to the exclusion list - selecting the relevant list or form to add this column/field seems to be the issue - after that it should be easy as the exclusion job is already running

Best wishes

Stuart
