Datasets in CMDB

Hello,

Do we have a concept of datasets in ServiceNow CMDB like BMC Atrium CMDB? I wanted to bring in some CIs but do not want them to be merged to the production system until I check and confirm the CIs are valid and correct.

How you guys are managing the CIs in your system?

Regards,

Srini

Nobody knows how to segregate CIs in ServiceNow?

Hi,

can you be more specific with your question as I don't really get the picture?

Kind regards

The concept of a dataset is basically a table in the database that exactly mimics another table (in BMC Remedy this is achieved by using an attribute within a single table, where the value of BMC.ASSET represents the CI as the Production version).

For example there is a table that is populated with CIs for printers (e.g. cmdb_ci_printer) and the information in that table is considered the "Production" data (i.e. an instance of the CI that is actively being consumed BAU).

If a User raises a Change request to alter the IP Address of a Printer CI, can that alteration be stored in a "Staging" table which mimics cmdb_ci_printer exactly.

Then can that CI only be reconciled into the "Production" table once the IP Address has been validated by a SACM Administrator (e.g. to ensure that the IP Address is correctly in range etc...)?

The goal of having separate datasets (or tables if you like) is to protect the integrity of the Production CMDB.

Pls clarify some more details. As we are doing a lot with CI's perhaps I can help you out.
