Export Knowledge Articles or Export a Knowledge Base from one Instance to another

Hi there, 

Our Knowledge Manager created 200+ articles in a new Knowledge Base in our Production Environment, and now would like them in our Test environment.  This work was done backwards, (usually we do Dev to Test to Prod using Update Sets) but unfortunately not this time.  

Any ideas how to achieve this?  I've done a quick search online and see that it may have been possible in the past on previous versions of ServiceNow, but the export to xml doesn't appear to be a valid selection in Madrid. 

Ideally... this option would be best suited!

Hi Cory,

 

Please navigate to the Knowledge articles table.

kb_knowledge_list

 

1. Using the gear icon, add the column "Knowledge Base" to the table by moving it to the right.find_real_file.png

 

2. Filter the knowledge base by searching for the knowledge base you want to export as shown below:

3. You can now export in the any of the ServiceNow listed formats.

Hi,

How is the export to XML option not showing up for you?

Did you look at the articles in list view, right-click any column header, then choose Export > XML?

 

Secondly, can't you just clone your Prod instance back to Test or would be doing that sometime soon (near future) anyway? Could they not wait until then?

I'm logged in as an Administrator, and have elevated the role to see if that gave me more options, but no, I don't see Export at all. 

As for cloning, we will most likely do this shortly, but need to first get testing done in our Test Portal before activating / going live to our clients in Production.

Hi Cory,

You won't get an export option from the related list.

You need to go to Knowledge -> Articles -> All from the left navigation. On that list you can filter on the Knowledge Base = "End User". I have given an example below with Knowledge base "Customer Service". You will see the export to XML option on this list.
