Google Chrome crashing when a list view loads on MacOS

When using the latest Chrome stable release (90.0.4430.93 (Official Build) (x86_64)) on MacOS Big Sur (11.3.1 (20E241)), I have been experiencing frequent crashes of Google Chrome when a list view in ServiceNow loads. It doesn't crash every time a list view loads, but it's frequent enough to be a major issue. The entire browser (not just a tab or window) completely crashes and I must relaunch the app afterwards. This seems to happen more frequently if the list view has grouped results, but not always. It can happen when looking at a list, a form with a related list, or a list-based report. There haven't been any changes in the ServiceNow environments I use recently. The only change I know of is that I got the Chrome update the week of 4/26/2021. MacOS had been updated 3/23/2021 (11.2.3) and then 5/4/2021 (11.3.1). This issue started the week of 4/26, if I remember correctly.

I know others have been experiencing this, but has anyone been able to determine the cause or a fix? I doubt it's anything that ServiceNow did recently (this happens in Paris and Quebec for me), but I'm guessing it's related to the latest stable Chrome version.

Running into the same issue.

Hi

For me, that sounds like a problem locally on your machine, rather than a source issue with your instance.

Or did any other user with different computer environment report the same problem?

I recommend to search the Google site for others reporting that same issue.

Maybe something like that is already known as bug and in progress to be fixed.

Let me know if that answered your question and mark my answer as correct and helpful.

I agree... it's probably something with my local machine. I have tried clearing cache, etc., but it is still happening. I posted in the Chrome support community, but no responses. The tiniest fraction of their community (if any) have even heard of ServiceNow, let alone spend all day in it. For reference, here's the post in the Google Chrome community: https://support.google.com/chrome/thread/108987104/chrome-crashing-when-loading-servicenow-list-view...

I know someone in the sndevs Slack channel experienced the issue and someone above indicated they experience it, too. We're otherwise unrelated (not using the same image or same instance, etc.).

Hi Tim

Yes, you are right. This may be a "mixture" of tech issues, if others are facing the same. I am wondering, if this is just happening for a certain ServiceNow Instance Version, or if that happens for other former version/release as well?

I guess certainly, that you are on the latest version with Chrome on your local machine!?!

Did you talk to others using the same instance like you do, but using a different type of computer / release etc.?

That helps best to sort out the root cause. I do not stand to deny issues with ServiceNow, but honestly, NO bug ever should bring a Client Browser to crash down.

Whatever you give your browser to eat, it never should crash.

Did you try to work with other browsers from the same machine on the same instance?

Let me know if that answers your question and mark my answer as correct and helpful.
