Is there an easy and reliable way of transferring data from external systems like BMC Remedy, Salesforce or Sharepoint to ServiceNow either as a one-off or regular scheduled activity?

the easiest and reliable way is to set a Scheduled File Import via Mid Server.

ServiceNow provides different integration capabilities, out of which one is import set web services. You can use those to schedule load from different external systems.

Hi,

We've been using a tool called Precision Bridge to do data migrations to ServiceNow. We used it for a few projects to migrate customers from BMC Remedy and Sharepoint into ServiceNow.

It's especially useful for BMC Migrations as it contains several templates that automatically map the fields between the system so you don't have to spend hours with manual mappings and preparation of transform maps.

I haven't used the scheduling option personally but I know it has been added in one of the latest releases.
