Using Multiple Service Portals

For all using HELSINKI and the Service Portal-

As most know, a Service Portal references ONE Catalog and ONE Knowledge Base. I've tried to setup a single Service Portal to reference all Catalogs but it was far too difficult and out of my area of expertise to tweak and modify all the code in the widgets. So instead, I've decided to create separate portals. I have a Business Services and Technical Services catalogs, each having their own Portal now. I also created a third portal (without a designated catalog) which will be the landing page, at which a user will select which portal to go into using the Icon Link widget. However, I'm not sure if this is the right way of going about it. I'm having difficulties referencing the different Service Portals- Not sure if I should be using a URL or Page reference.

Has anyone done this? If so, is this the right route to go? Can you link another portal within one?

We have one portal and access to different widgets, KB and Catalogs is controlled by what roles the user has.   I think you will find that is the recommendation from the portal team.   Having multiple portals is going to be hard to maintain.

Which path did you go down? Did you set up multiple portals? Or use Roles (or user criterias)?

We ended up setting everything up into one portal. For certain service catalog categories, we've made them available for ITIL users only. I think we ended up going down this path because we as an organization are not ready to support departments using different portals. Eventually, we will go down the path of multiple portals but it will still be a challenge to reference multiple KBs and Catalogs using a single portal. We will see how it goes when we get there!

Marcus we used roles.   The product solution to have multiple portals with one enterprise portal with access to multiple KBs and user criteria is coming in the Jakarta release.
