Using Multiple Service Portals

For all using HELSINKI and the Service Portal-

As most know, a Service Portal references ONE Catalog and ONE Knowledge Base. I've tried to setup a single Service Portal to reference all Catalogs but it was far too difficult and out of my area of expertise to tweak and modify all the code in the widgets. So instead, I've decided to create separate portals. I have a Business Services and Technical Services catalogs, each having their own Portal now. I also created a third portal (without a designated catalog) which will be the landing page, at which a user will select which portal to go into using the Icon Link widget. However, I'm not sure if this is the right way of going about it. I'm having difficulties referencing the different Service Portals- Not sure if I should be using a URL or Page reference.

Has anyone done this? If so, is this the right route to go? Can you link another portal within one?

Looking for any insight here!

Hey Blaze,

Thanks for sharing. Does your landing portal/page have the ability to search across all portals?

I removed the search from the main page so that it forced people to go into the catalogs. find_real_file.png

I may add it later on, once the community is used to the portal, but this way, they poke around and say ahh next time I need to do X, i can go to the Y portal.

Blaze,

Thanks for the quick response. Did you implement your Service Portal(s) broken out? Or, at one point did you have a single portal which everyone was using? I think that will be part of our challenge- We already have a single portal, so breaking it out to multiple catalogs could be a challenge. It's something I'd still like to do though since our catalog is growing far too big to be a single catalog.

Thanks for your responses!

Hey Marques,

Not a problem at all.

I never wanted to just have the one portal, so I designed it from inception to break it out. I already knew once different departments started getting into SN, that they were going to want to add to the catalog.

It's easier to maintain, and easier to find when it has its own stuff.

Plus it makes the business owner feel " Special" that they have their own portal, so its easier to get things from them when you need to do configurations etc.

Hope that helps
